GHWH 3rd Grade 8/21

This week in Spalding, students will continue to review. Now that manuscript is complete, the students will begin cursive. The purpose of cursive writing is to develop fluency. The connecting letters increase the speed of writing, improves the attention span, and fosters academic performance. Students feel successful as they develop ease with handwriting.

Another week, another set of stories with Sam and Louis! We look forward to hearing your poetry recitations on the 28th and will spend the week practicing Try, Try Again by T.H. Palmer. The skills you will gain in the upcoming grammar and writing lessons will help you improve your overall reading and writing skills. We are so excited for you here in third grade; congratulations on completing week two!

This week our young mathematicians are going to explore rounding to the nearest ten, hundred, and thousand! Number lines are particularly useful when practicing rounding. On Thursday, we will review all of the topics from Unit 1: place value, comparing numbers with the greater than and less than symbols, number patterns, and rounding. Scholars will show what they have learned so far with a Unit 1 test on Friday.

Why didn’t 7 and 1 want to eat dinner? Because they already eight!

This week 3rd grade is going to take a wonderful adventure exploring the Murray, Mississippi, and the Ob rivers. Scholars will have 2 exit tickets for History this week. Finally, on Friday there will be a special reading on Friday from an excerpt from Mark Twain’s “Old Times on the Mississippi.”. We will explore the dangers along the Mississippi for river pilots.

What is the fruitiest subject at school? History, because it’s full of dates.

This week 3rd grade will continue to study life cycles of various plants and animals. Scholars will start exploring different traits of plants and animals. There will be 2 assignments this week in Science.

Where is a rabbit’s favorite place to eat? IHop!

Important Information:

  • Parents, please see the stream of your scholars google classroom daily for an updated agenda for the day. This will help guide your scholar while doing their work to ensure everything is being done and turned in. It will also help you when you are checking your scholar's work to make sure that nothing was forgotten about or missed.
  • We are working very hard to provide your scholar with feedback on all of the work being turned in. In order to see how your student is doing on assignments turned in follow the steps provided below;
  • In Google Classroom on the web, available classes display after you sign in. Click on or tap a class, then: Classwork (from the top menu), then View My Work. When you see a small speech bubble next to an assignment that means a teacher has left a comment for your scholar.
  • In the Google Classroom app on iOS or Android, tap a class, tap Classwork, then tap the student work icon in the upper-right hand corner of the screen.
  • Each assignment is listed with its status (e.g., Assigned, Turned In, or Missing) and due date, if added. If available, grades also display on this screen, although not all assignments will have a score associated with it.
