3rd Grade 8/28

Scholars, thank you for working diligently on your writing and grammar tasks. Your spelling, sentence structure, and comprehension are set to soar! Louis has learned many things on his journey thus far. Make sure to follow along in your book during read alouds. Thank you for your Try, Try Again submissions. We are delighted to view your recitations!

In Spalding, scholars have now been introduced to the homework, Thursday review, and Friday spelling test. Monday- Wednesday, scholars will learn 10 new words every day. They will need to complete their homework where they will write their words a total of 3 times. These words will include markings and rules. On Thursday, they will write out all 30 words to prepare for their Friday spelling test. On Thursday and Friday, scholars do not need to include markings or rules.

This week scholars will dive into mental math addition and subtraction strategies. These strategies are more tools for your scholar’s mathematical toolbox. However, they are not meant to replace the algorithm and strategies they learned last year. They can still write down a problem and regroup on paper! The goal is simply for scholars to see the relationship between numbers and learn that there is more than one way to solve addition or subtraction problems.

This week in History scholars will travel to South America, Canada, Europe, and Africa, as we continue to learn about different rivers around the world.

This week in Science we will discuss traits of parents, offspring, and siblings.
