3rd Grade 5/21/21

This week scholars will work on designing their own theme park. In this in-class project, scholars will use their knowledge of area and perimeter to draw out their park. Additionally, scholars will use their knowledge of addition and subtraction to create an expense report. 

This week we will work on some fun activities! Some of these activities include a Viking longhouse and Viking runes. 


Science: This week we will review our solar system by exploring constellations.

3rd Grade 5/14/21

This upcoming week we will finish The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis! 

Scholars will explore adding and subtracting meters and centimeters, kilometers, review, and have an assessment. 


This week we will be exploring magnetism and answering the question, what problems can be solved with magnets?


This week we will be wrapping up and reviewing our entire unit on the 13 colonies. We will begin prepping for our final assessment.

3rd Grade 5/7/21

STAAR Testing is upon us. We will continue our study of The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe and compound subjects once testing has concluded. Great job on The Village Blacksmith recitations, 3rd grade! 

We will have a practice assessment on volume. Once we are done with STAAR we will explore estimating and measuring with meters and centimeters. We will end our week discussing subtracting meters and centimeters. 


In our newest unit on Forces, we have explored a push or a pull and friction. This week, we will be predicting patterns of motion and exploring magnetism. 


Next week we will explore New York: a dutch settlement, and William Penn and the Quakers. 



STAAR Reminders:


  • Please bring a water bottle. Please label your water bottle.

  • Please bring 2 books with your name clearly labeled on each book.

  • No backpacks on Tuesday, or Wednesday.

  • The campus is closed.

3rd Grade 4/30/21

We will continue our study of The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe and introduce compound subjects in grammar. The Village Blacksmith recitation is 5/7. Thank you! 

This week we will explore and discuss perimeter, 2-D solids, adding and removing cubes, and volume. At home have your scholar try to figure out the perimeter of objects in their environment and volume. 


Last week we completed our unit on weather and climate with a small quiz. This week, we will begin our new unit on force. This new unit will take us through the end of the year. 


This week we will continue our unit on the Thirteen Colonies. We will learn about a Puritan Colony, the story of Rhode Island, and the middle colonies.

3rd Grade 4/22/21

We’ve wrapped up our study of The Little Prince! What a beautiful and philosophical read. Make sure to ask your scholar about it! The Village Blacksmith recitation is due 5/7/21 and scholars will continue practicing writing dictations. 

This week we will have a cumulative assessment on Units 1-5, 10,11, and 12. Scholars will explore and discuss non-standard units, comparing areas of figures, and areas in standard units. We will end the week with an assessment. 


This week we will research patterns of weather, including seasons and extreme weather. 


This week we will learn about the Pilgrims coming to America, their colony, and be introduced to the Massachusetts colony.

3rd Grade 4/16/21

We will continue our study of The Little Prince as he explores planets and encounters grown-ups! In grammar, we will continue reviewing prepositional phrases and will start the poem The Village Blacksmith. 

This week scholars will have an assessment on quadrilaterals and triangles, review of solid figures, an assessment on solid figures and prepare for a cumulative assessment. Please continue to have your scholars explore shapes and angles at home.  


We will continue to investigate air pressure, precipitation, and begin investigating movements of air or wind. 


We will continue our unit on the Thirteen Colonies. This week we will learn the story of Maryland, Georgia, and plantations in South Carolina,

3rd Grade 4/9/21

 Scholars, what a joy it is to study The Little Prince with you. Please continue to bring your questions and big ideas! Thank you for your Christopher Columbus recitations and know that we will be reviewing prepositional phrases in grammar this week. 

This week we will discuss angles and right angles. There will be a test on angles and a cumulative test which will cover units 1-5, 10, 11, and 12. As we continue to explore measurements in the 4th quarter please have your scholar practice these new skills at home. If possible, have your scholar measure things around the house and have them point out angles. 


Scholars, It has been so much fun exploring the human body with you. On Thursday we wrapped up our unit with a review game. This week we will begin a new unit on Weathering and Climate. We will start with the Earth’s atmosphere.
